Description

Yes it’s been a long road between these two shots and I’d like to say that there isn’t much difference but alas the wonders of Photoshop couldn’t support that impossible goal. So what’s happened in between? Well a military career that ended in 1996 after service in some odd places and one that was dominated with the underlying tones of Infantry. I must say that I enjoyed it all and would have continued on but common sense, a body that was yelling loudly and a need to start a second career, after qualifying for some of DFRDB, had me pulling the pin. A decision I have never yet regretted. I had a couple of years as a public servant in Defence at Enoggera, Brisbane and then I joined Serco for a few more years where I was a contract manager in the provision of Garrison Support services to Defence. I then joined the security industry with a company called Group 4 Securitas, a brand that no longer exists after having been purchased by ISS, and have remained there ever since. I am currently the State Manager for ISS Security in Victoria.

I have two sons and the eldest, Joshua (27) has branded me as an old codger by producing a grandson and I will travel to San Francisco in December to meet the little lad. Ben, the younger one (25) is still playing the field and resides in Perth. I have moved permanently to Melbourne where I live with the woman of my dreams, Maria, who I was fortunate to meet in Spain a few years ago whilst we were both on holidays and where fate did its thing and its been bliss ever since.

I love my motorcycle and last year rode it from Perth to Sydney via Melbourne and enjoyed the experience, as only other motorcycle riders will understand. Six days with your head in a bucket whilst wearing ear plugs and analyzing the meaning of life does take some understanding. Retirement is beckoning but at the moment I enjoy my job and the challenges as well as the rewards but like everything it has a use by date.

I have managed to keep in touch with some of the Class of 73 but there are many that I haven’t seen since December of that year and I am looking forward to meeting them all again, albeit wrinkles and all.
