Description

After graduating from OCS Portsea in December 1973, I was posted to 8/9 RAR in Brisbane where I served as a platoon commander in B Coy including a detachment to Singleton with the Corps Training Company and a 3 month rotation with Rifle Company Butterworth, Malaysia. In 1976, I was posted to 10 Independent Rifle Company at the Land Warfare Centre, Canungra where I worked very closely with Battle Wing.

Following this in 1977, I did a stint as a platoon commander/instructor at 1 RTB, Kapooka and then in 1978, I was promoted to Captain and posted as the Adjutant, 49 RQR at Wacol in Brisbane. My next posting in late 1979, after completing the Mortar Officer course, was as the mortar platoon commander 5/7 RAR (Mech) at Holsworthy, NSW. In 1982, I moved to Brisbane again as the SO3 Ops at HQ 6 Bde at Enoggera.

At the end of 1983, I was lucky enough to be posted as a UN Observer with UNMOGIP in India/Pakistan where I spent just over 12 months. In 1985, I was promoted to Major and posted as a company commander with 5/7 RAR (Mech) at Holsworthy, NSW. I then attended the Australian Army’s Command and Staff College at Fort Queenscliffe in Victoria in 1987 and for my sins there ended up being posted as the SO2 Ops HQ 2 Div at Randwick, NSW. My last posting in 1990 was back to 5/7 RAR (Mech) as the 2IC. At the end of 1992, I parted ways with the regular army and transferred to the inactive reserve and have served in various capacities in the Army Reserve up until 2011. These included Training adviser to the Commander 6 Bde and as a Liaison Officer with the Singaporean Armed Forces on the “Wallaby” series of exercises at Shoalwater Bay.

After leaving the regular army in 1992, I secured a job with Queensland Police in their policy and procedures area and then managed the Queensland Police Traffic Camera Office until 2011 at which time I retired from the workforce.

I am currently happily retired and living with my wife of 33 years, Enid, at Ormiston on Moreton Bay. My retirement plans include overseas travel and caravanning around Australia disgracefully.
